Trevor GrahamTrevor Graham, CFA (Portfolio Manager, Chief Operating Officer) joined Gryphon International in 2014. Prior to joining Gryphon International, Trevor served as a portfolio manager for Hansberger Global Investors Ltd. Where he was Senior Vice President – Research, responsible for co-managing international equity portfolios. 

Trevor began his career and gained his first ten years of experience at Philips, Hager & North Investment Management Ltd., initially as a Co-op Research Assistant, then as Operations Officer, Quantitative Analyst, and latterly as Global Equity Analyst; he provided fundamental analysis, primarily for securities in Industrial, Basic Materials, Energy and Utilities sectors, and co-managed a global equity index fund. Trevor graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Commerce.

John HwangJohn Hwang, CFA (Portfolio Manager) joined Gryphon International in 2004. Prior to joining Gryphon International John worked as a Performance Analyst at Laketon Investment Management where he assisted in the implementation of the Global Investment Performance Standards, and was also responsible for performance and attribution analysis.

Prior to this, at Financial Models Company Inc., John provided consulting and client service for the company’s accounting and performance software offered to a number of asset management companies. His career began at Canada Life Financial Corporation’s Investment Division supporting the firm’s investment team. John graduated from Western University with a Bachelor of Economics.

Larry McManusLarry McManus, CFA (Portfolio Manager, President & Chief Executive Officer) has extensive experience managing global equities. Prior to co-founding Gryphon International, Larry held a number of senior positions with investment management firms based in Canada. His career began with Royal Trust in Montreal, where as Senior Investment Officer he managed the portfolios of estates, trusts and high-net-worth individuals. Larry then moved to Calvin Bullock, where he became portfolio manager of Canada’s oldest mutual fund while supervising other managers, analysts and traders. Thereafter, Larry spent six years in senior positions with the CN Investment Division, with a focus on North American equities while also supervising the division’s foreign portfolios, and also held a position with Natcan Investment Management as a Partner and Vice President, managing the firm’s U.S. and EAFE equities. Larry holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Cum Laude) from Concordia University.

Spencer MellishSpencer Mellish, CFA (Portfolio Manager, Chief Financial Officer) joined Gryphon International in 2014. Prior to joining Gryphon International, Spencer managed non-Canadian equity investments at AGF / Highstreet Asset Management following AGF’s acquisition of Acuity Investment Management where he was Director, Global Equities; at Highstreet Asset Management Inc. he was Vice-President and Portfolio Manager from 2012-2014.

Spencer joined Acuity in 2006 after earlier experience at CN Investment Division from 1999-2006, where he rose from Investment Officer to Portfolio Manager and managed a global healthcare portfolio and co-managed a large multi-sector global portfolio. Spencer’s initial investment experience was gained at Bolton Tremblay, Inc. where he provided investment research across multiple sectors and geographies.

Peter HanleyPeter Hanley, CPA, CMA, MBA, CFA (Portfolio Manager) joined Gryphon International in 2009. Peter has been involved in the finance and investment fields and the management of EAFE, U.S. and Canadian equity portfolios for twenty-nine years. Prior to joining Gryphon International, Peter served as Vice President, Director and Portfolio Manager at Galileo Global Equity Advisors, Vice President and Portfolio Manager at KBSH Capital Management, and Vice President, Director and Portfolio Manager at Van Berkom and Associates Inc. Peter’s experience also includes a position with CN Investment Division, where he worked with Larry McManus and was subsequently Senior Investment Officer, responsible for EAFE and U.S. equities. Peter began his finance/investment career as Vice President, Financial Controls at the Toronto Dominion Bank, where he was responsible for all financial controls and risk management for the Treasury, Investment Banking and International divisions.
Alex BecksAlex Becks (Portfolio Manager, Chairman) has focused his entire career on the management of global equities. Prior to co-founding Gryphon International, he held a number of senior investment management positions in Europe, Canada and the U.S. Alex’s career began with ABN Bank in the Netherlands, as a member of the Investment Management Committee. After moving to Canada, Alex worked as an Investment Analyst with the Royal Trust Company, specializing in U.S. equities. Thereafter, Alex spent seven years in senior positions with the CN Investment Division where he initiated an international equities portfolio; as General Manager Equities, Alex was responsible for all publicly traded equities, including Canadian, U.S. and International. Following five years in the United States with Johnston, Lemon & Co. as a Senior Vice President and Strategist, providing institutional strategies and research, Alex started his own investment advisory company, Becks Capital Management; as the company’s founder and principal, he was responsible for managing all international securities on behalf of private investors and a major Canadian institutional investor. Alex studied economics at The Hague in the Netherlands.
